Procrastinating into a Pandemic

I did not intend to launch this website in the midst of a pandemic.  I just procrastinated long enough for it to happen.

I’m not used to being housebound.

In my previous life, I would drop everything to chase after breaking news. I carried my passport wherever I went and an emergency bag was always packed under my desk at the office, just in case I had to dash out the door immediately.  A flight to Paris could suddenly become a trip to Moscow or Amman.  I never knew where I would end up.

It was thrilling but I longed for days of routine and predictability.

Now, I have no choice but to stay put.

It’s a strange feeling but, I’m a little embarrassed to say, I’m actually kind of enjoying it.

All this time at home, you might think the stories would just come pouring out of me.  What an ideal time to write!

And yet ...

During the Great Lockdown, I’ve mostly been homeschooling, cooking, cleaning and, in between, trying to write.

With this website, however, I now have more motivation to get myself writing.

At the moment, I’m working towards a collection of short stories. I have always loved the short story form and, for me, it’s the ideal starting line for my writing practice.

My aim is to post updates on my work here.  It could be a new story, notes on an idea I’m researching or types of stories I’m reading.   If I’m working on a news story, I might post some thoughts on that here as well.

Oh. And pictures of my cat giving me the death stare when I procrastinate.

Either way, it gets me writing, which I love.  I hope you enjoy the reading.
